Poliwag

C Rank

Poliwag is a small tadpole Pokemon. Its body is generally blue, however it can also appear in other shades if the Poliwag is of a typing other than water. There is a black and white swirl on its abdomen, and the skin is very elastic. Poliwag has newly developed legs that allow it to move about on land, however they are poor at walking. It has no arms and its long, mostly transparent tail makes it a powerful swimmer. Poliwag is commonly found swimming in small freshwater ponds and lakes where it can easily find food and avoid predators.

Poliwhirl

B Rank

Poliwhirl has undergone metamorphosis from its tadpole stage but still resembles Poliwag. This Pokemon is bipedal, with bulbous eyes and its arms end in white 'gloves'. Like Poliwag, a black and white swirl covers its belly and its body is the same colour as its tadpole form - generally blue. It has lost its tail, losing its speed in water, but has become more capable of moving on land. Poliwhirl still prefers to stay in or near freshwater ponds and lakes. When out of water its skin secretes an oily fluid to keep it moist and to allow Poliwhirl to slip out of the grasp of predators.

Poliwrath

A Rank

Poliwrath is far more aggressive than any of its other evolutions, and evolves from Poliwhirl after coming into contact with a Fury Stone providing that Poliwhirl only has a single typing. Upon evolution it will gain the fighting type. Poliwrath has a similar appearance to Poliwhirl, except that it is larger and typically looks more aggressive. Generally its body is blue, albeit a darker shade than that of its pre-evolution. Its bulbous eyes are larger and the muscles in its arms and legs are more powerful. Its fists are more developed, capable of exchanging blows with ease, and its skin does not require constant hydration. Poliwrath is able to swim vast distances with ease, but actually lives on dry land near the waters edge. Poliwrath will defend its territory aggressively, sometimes dragging opponents into the water if that gives it an advantage.

Politoed

A Rank

Politoed is a green, bipedal, frog Pokemon with yellow hands, belly, throat and toes. There is a green and yellow swirl on its belly. If the Politoed is of another typing other than water its yellow patterning may be a different colour. Its legs and arms are well developed for movement on land, including hopping and jumping, but it is still an excellent swimmer. Politoed like to gather in groups and sing, expanding their throat to create deep sounds that can be heard over long distances.

Breeding

Poliwag evolve before they become sexually mature so only their evolutions can breed. Poliwhirl, Poliwrath and Politoed can reproduce with many Amphibian Pokemon but prefer to breed with other frog and toad types. Female Politoed like to host a chorus in order to select a mate with a song that she likes. Females commonly lay up to 2 eggs in shallow fresh water pools and do not mate for life.
